Silver Lake is one of the few central LA neighborhoods with an official off-leash city dog park, the Silverlake Dog Park by the reservoir. Here is what renting there with a pet looks like in 2026.
The Silverlake Dog Park
- Address: 1863 Silver Lake Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026
- Hours: open daily 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.; closed Wednesday mornings for maintenance (per City of LA Recreation and Parks)
- Nearby alternative: Griffith Park Dog Park on N. Zoo Dr (90027), a short drive north
City dog-park rules cite the LA Municipal Code: dogs must be licensed and vaccinated and spayed or neutered, and puppies under four months are not allowed. Check the Recreation and Parks dog park page for each park’s hours and closures.

Finding a pet-friendly unit in Silver Lake
- Ask for the pet policy in writing before you pay an application fee. From April 1, 2027, SB 1296 will require landlords to provide it.
- Get pet rent, pet fees and breed or weight limits in the lease.
- Many older Silver Lake buildings are RSO units; see RSO explained.
- Compare neighborhoods in Silver Lake vs. Echo Park and our Silver Lake and Echo Park guides.
California pet-rental rules to know (verified October 31, 2026)
- Deposits: Under Civil Code 1950.5(c)(1) (AB 12), the total security a landlord can collect is generally capped at one month’s rent, whether it is called a pet deposit or not, because “security” includes any payment, fee, deposit or charge used to cover damage or cleaning. A small landlord (a natural person or an LLC of natural persons owning no more than two properties with no more than four units total) may collect up to two months, but not from a service member. Deposits can’t be labeled nonrefundable (1950.5(n)). See our AB 12 guide.
- AB 2216 did not become law. The 2023-24 bill that would have limited no-pet policies passed the Assembly but died in the Senate on November 30, 2024. Landlords in California can still refuse pets (assistance animals are covered by separate fair-housing rules).
- New: SB 1296 (signed September 30, 2026). Starting April 1, 2027, landlords must have a written pet policy, even if it is “no pets.” They must link to it in their listings where the platform allows, and include a copy with every rental application. If an applicant pays an application fee without getting the policy and can’t or won’t proceed because of it, they can ask for a refund, due within seven business days. The law does not require landlords to allow pets.
- Pending: AB 2609 (2025-26), which would limit pet rent and pet deposits, was still in Assembly Judiciary when we checked; its April 27, 2026 hearing was canceled at the author’s request. It is not law.
About the numbers
Zillow ZORI is a smoothed, ZIP-level index of typical observed market asking rents across all home types (not a single listing, and not bedroom-specific). HUD Small Area Fair Market Rents (SAFMR) are HUD’s FY2027 per-bedroom estimates used to set housing voucher payment standards; they are gross-rent estimates (rent plus basic utilities), not asking prices. Neither number guarantees a specific unit at that price. Always confirm rent, fees and terms with the landlord in writing.
