AMLI Marina del Rey is a large waterfront community at 4242 Via Marina in Marina del Rey, the unincorporated harbor town between Venice and Playa del Rey. AMLI Residential owns and operates it. According to listing data, the community has about 585 apartments and was completed around 2017; we could not confirm those figures from an official AMLI source.
The setting is the main draw: the property faces the marina channels, boat slips are available for residents, and many homes have water views. It is LEED Silver certified, according to AMLI. In October 2026 it had three-bedroom homes listed above $10,000 a month.
Location and neighborhood
Via Marina runs along the western edge of the harbor, a short bike ride from Venice Beach and the Ballona Creek bike path. Abbot Kinney Boulevard, Playa Vista’s tech offices and the shops of Marina del Rey are close by. Transit is limited, so most residents drive; LAX is about 15 minutes south.
We do not have a dedicated Marina del Rey guide yet; our Venice neighborhood guide covers the neighboring area.

How it compares with other LA luxury rentals
We reviewed advertised rents at 25 of the priciest rental communities in Los Angeles County on October 28, 2026. Ranked by the highest monthly asking rent, AMLI Marina Del Rey came in at number 20. For context, here is what several other high-end buildings were asking on the same day (same source):
- Ten Thousand (Century City): $13,600 – $27,000 a month
- Olympic + Hill (Downtown LA (South Park)): $2,499 – $24,434 a month
- Circa LA (Downtown LA (South Park)): $2,653 – $23,216 a month
- THEA at Metropolis (Downtown LA): $2,786 – $22,514 a month
- Kurve (Westlake/Koreatown edge): $2,228 – $19,262 a month
- Vision on Wilshire (Miracle Mile): $4,499 – $18,699 a month
Keep in mind that the top of each range is usually driven by one or two penthouse or oversized units, so the starting rent and the mix of unit sizes often say more about a building than its single most expensive listing. Linked names go to our full profile of that building.

Touring tips
- Ask which specific units are available and on which floors; view and floor height can move the rent by thousands of dollars in the same floor plan.
- Request the full monthly cost in writing, including parking, pet rent, storage, utilities and any amenity or service fees.
- Ask whether advertised specials are applied as free weeks up front or spread across the lease, and how that affects renewal pricing.
- Visit at rush hour and in the evening to judge traffic, noise and how easy it is to get in and out of the garage.
- Read the lease terms for minimum length, early termination and renewal caps before you put down a deposit.
Who it suits
AMLI Marina del Rey suits boaters, beach lovers, Playa Vista and Silicon Beach tech workers, and anyone who wants a relaxed waterfront lifestyle with resort-style amenities.
Can you afford it?
A common rule of thumb is to keep rent near 30% of gross income, which means a $3,829 apartment calls for roughly $153,000 a year in household income, and the top-end unit far more. Many luxury buildings also ask for income of two and a half to three times the rent.
