Nine Thousand One is a five-story boutique apartment building at 9001 Santa Monica Boulevard, at the western end of West Hollywood where it meets Beverly Hills. It was developed by GPI Companies, designed by Steinberg Hart, and it began leasing in 2022. The building has 46 homes, including eight affordable units, over ground-floor retail and restaurant space.

The developer pitches it as a cross between a custom home and a boutique hotel, with services such as on-site car detailing and a daily coffee and pastry offering. In our October 2026 survey it had no studios or one-bedrooms advertised; the cheapest listing was a two-bedroom above $8,000 a month.

Location and neighborhood

The address is on the border of West Hollywood and Beverly Hills, near Doheny Drive. The Troubadour, the restaurants along Santa Monica Boulevard, the Beverly Hills shopping district and the Sunset Strip are all close by. The neighborhood is walkable, though most residents will still want a car for longer trips.

How it compares with other LA luxury rentals

We reviewed advertised rents at 25 of the priciest rental communities in Los Angeles County on October 28, 2026. Ranked by the highest monthly asking rent, Nine Thousand One came in at number 13. For context, here is what several other high-end buildings were asking on the same day (same source):

Keep in mind that the top of each range is usually driven by one or two penthouse or oversized units, so the starting rent and the mix of unit sizes often say more about a building than its single most expensive listing. Linked names go to our full profile of that building.

Touring tips

  • Ask which specific units are available and on which floors; view and floor height can move the rent by thousands of dollars in the same floor plan.
  • Request the full monthly cost in writing, including parking, pet rent, storage, utilities and any amenity or service fees.
  • Ask whether advertised specials are applied as free weeks up front or spread across the lease, and how that affects renewal pricing.
  • Visit at rush hour and in the evening to judge traffic, noise and how easy it is to get in and out of the garage.
  • Read the lease terms for minimum length, early termination and renewal caps before you put down a deposit.

Who it suits

Nine Thousand One suits couples and small families who want a two- or three-bedroom home in a small, service-focused building, and anyone who wants to be within walking distance of both West Hollywood and Beverly Hills.

Can you afford it?

A common rule of thumb is to keep rent near 30% of gross income, which means a $8,168 apartment calls for roughly $327,000 a year in household income, and the top-end unit far more. Many luxury buildings also ask for income of two and a half to three times the rent.
